The acronym “AGV” expands as “Automated Guided Vehicle”. It is also common to encounter the term “industrial robot.” What is hidden under this term? Devices of this type are advanced solutions for transporting loads in the warehouse, which are mainly characterized by the way they move around the facility. Autonomous AGVs are self-propelled and follow a predetermined route using magnetic tracks, tapes or markers. This makes it possible to use such devices not only to optimize warehouse operations, but also to increase the repeatability of processes and reduce the risk of dangerous, unexpected situations.
Autonomous carts are increasingly being used in various industries primarily due to the possibility of reducing the time of transporting goods. At the same time, it is worth noting that a transport cart from this category can be adapted for specific types of cargo - there are models available for handling pallets, boxes or small-sized items, among others. Industrial robots of the AMR (“Autonomous Mobile Robots”) type are a similar solution. The pallet shuttle cart is distinguished by its dimensions precisely adapted to the dimensions of euro pallets. The maximum weight of the load in this case is as much as 1,200 kg, and the primary use of such a device is to distribute goods to storage areas. The shuttle transport cart, on the other hand, is designed for use with boxes weighing 35-50 kg and offers a capacity of as many as 300 cycles per hour. This model operates with a double-deep system, which allows warehousing goods using two layers; an additional advantage is that it can be powered straight from the mains, without additional batteries.
MicroCoaster warehouse carts were developed as part of research and development, resulting in access to a number of advanced, intelligent features - including mechanisms for avoiding collisions with other carts, route optimization or autonomous communication between devices. The device handles small-volume goods and can be installed overhead, allowing maximum use of available space in the warehouse.
AGV autonomous carts have a lot of advantages, which allow them to effectively replace standard warehouse carts. A huge benefit is the ability to operate without the participation of an operator - it is enough to define a specific route for the device to move automatically through designated areas of the warehouse. Thereby, this results in support for full automation and even 24-hour operation. Thus, a transport cart of this kind is a very cost-effective investment that can significantly increase warehouse profits in the long term. On top of this, the risk of accidents is also significantly reduced. Since the AGV does not need constant control and manual steering, workers' exposure to heavy and dangerous goods can be reduced.
